Two Volusia County businesses are among the nation’s fastest-growing private companies, according to a new survey.
DeBary-based DBK Inc., a construction company with operations in multiple states, was ranked 687th fastest-growing, while Daytona Beach-based Synergy Billing, which provides billing services for community health centers, was ranked 1,071st fastest-growing by Inc. magazine.
Inc.’s 34th annual Inc. 5000 list ranks companies based on percentage revenue growth over the past three years.
DBK, founded in 2007, generated $16.8 million in revenues last year, a 658 percent increase from its revenues in 2012, according to Inc. The company also grew its workforce by 36 employees during that three-year period.
Damon Kruid, the owner and CEO of DBK who began his company in his Deltona home, said he now employs 66 workers, including four new hires in the past week.
DBK specializes in renovating apartment and condominium complexes but also has a division that provides services for residential and commercial customers such as installing and servicing air-conditioning systems, electrical repair and replacement, plumbing repair and roof repair and replacement.
The company occupies a 13,800-square-foot building on South Shell Road in DeBary, where it recently completed a renovation to add more office space as well as an “employee appreciation center” where workers can play pool, pingpong and darts during breaks and where movies can be shown in the evenings for workers and their families.
Kruid said his goal is to grow in a controlled, sustainable manner, adding that he will turn down jobs if he believes it would stretch his staff too thin. “If you grow too fast, your quality can go down,” he said.
Synergy Billing, founded in 2006, generated nearly $4.5 million in revenues last year, a 403 percent increase from 2012, according to Inc. The company added 47 workers during that period.
Jeannette Duerr, a spokeswoman for Synergy Billing, said the company now employs 86 workers, including more than two dozen hired since the start of the year. The company, led by founder/CEO Jayson Meyer, recently announced plans to build an office park in Holly Hill to accommodate its growth.
“To learn we are among the top 21 percent of the fastest-growing private companies in the U.S. is very gratifying,” stated Meyer in a news release. “This validates that we are meeting the needs of our clients.”
Meyer in an email wrote that the goal for Synergy Billing “is not about being the biggest or fastest-growing company, it is about being the best.”
